Happy Thanksgiving to All!

As families around the United States celebrate Thanksgiving, the kitchen is a main focus.  It makes sense then that Thanksgiving day also has the highest total of 911 calls for kitchen fires of any day in the year. Here’s a video offering some good advice about how to avoid kitchen fires and how to react if they do happen.

The most important tips:

  • Stay in the kitchen while cooking
  • Keep flammable objects like oven mitts away from the stove
  • Never throw water on a grease fire
  • Slide a lid over a pan on fire
  • Baking soda can help to put out the fire
  • Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen & know how to use it
  • Call 911 immediately

These simple precautions will keep the focus where it should be: On the fact that no matter how near or far your family and friends are, there’s always something to be thankful for.
